Direct Force Field (DFF) was developed by Prof. Dr. Huai Sun and his collaborators.

The DFF project began in 2000, with its first commercial release in 2002. Since then, it has evolved into a comprehensive software package specializing in force field development and molecular simulation applications.

The philosophy behind DFF is straightforward: to solve real-world scientific and engineering problems using cutting-edge computational technologies. DFF supports research and development in both materials science and life sciences, providing tools for the development, validation, and application of molecular force fields.

DFF is distributed by Aeon Technology, a privately held company based in San Diego, California, USA.

DFF has been used by hundreds of research groups at leading academic institutions worldwide, and by 20 global chemical and pharmaceutical companies including BASF, Evonnik, Johnson&Johnson, Dow Chemical, Honeywell, P&G, SINOPEC, and CNPC.
